Heat Pump Technical Assessment
If you are thinking of upgrading your heating system, SEAI offers grants of up to €6,500 to install a heat pump (T&Cs apply).
All homeowners, including private landlords, whose homes were built and occupied before 2021 can apply. This is defined as the date your electricity meter was installed.
At BER Cert Dublin, all our surveyors are registered Technical Advisors that can carry out Technical Assessments and help with the SEAI Heat Pump grant application.
A €200 grant is also available for the Technical Assessment of your home, payable only with the heat pump system grant.
Before you apply for a heat pump system grant, it’s important to ensure your home has a sufficiently low level of heat loss. This is crucial for the efficient performance of your heat pump and to keep your electricity bills manageable. The construction year of your property can help determine if your home is ready for a heat pump.
Here's what you need to know:
For Homes Built Before 2007
- A Technical Assessment is required if you do not have a valid Building Energy Rating (BER) Assessment or if your BER Assessment indicates your dwelling has a high heat loss (Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) greater than 2.3).
- A Technical Assessment is not required if your valid BER Assessment shows your dwelling has a sufficient heat loss (HLI is equal to or less than 2.3).
For Homes Built From 2007 Onwards
- A Technical Assessment is not required due to the original building fabric, your dwelling is likely to have a sufficient heat loss. You can fill out and upload the Self-Declaration Form during the heat pump application process.
- Optional Technical Assessment - You may choose to carry out a Technical Assessment, but completing any identified fabric upgrades is not mandatory.
A Technical Advisor provides the homeowner with independent guidance in a Technical Assessment, detailing any upgrades needed to reduce the heat loss to the required level for a heat pump system to perform at its best.
The Technical Assessment form is submitted to SEAI on completion and is signed by the homeowner and Technical Advisor.
